Cumberland Island Camping!!

This weekend we went camping on Cumberland Island with Brian and Luke . We had such a great time. I really do love that island! There are a lot of pictures, so I made them small. Click on each to see the larger version.

Leaving St. Mary's Georgia to get to Cumberland Island via ferry boat.

Brian perched upon one of the twisted live oaks.

Brian waiting for a wild horse to cross the trail ahead of us.

Approaching Plum Orchard. This is one for the few standing mansions still remaining from the old rich family times.

Woodstorks behind Plum Orchard.

Can you see the GIANT alligator on the far bank? And the little one in the water, just to the right of the giant one? This is by far the biggest alligator we have ever seen in nature, maybe 10 feet.... I am glad we were on the opposite pond bank!

The boys at the campsite Saturday night, after hiking a short (not!) 10 miles. At least only about 6.5 miles of that was with packs on our backs.

The beach and the shrimp boats on Sunday morning.

Heading south to catch the morning ferry back to the mainland. We started on the beach (The boys were kind enough to let me have one last search for sand dollars!) and then came into the forest trail to speed things up.

We made the ferry, but not without some amazing will power to keep moving forward at a pretty quick pace. Brian's mantra for the latter part of the hike was "Royal Buffet, Royal Buffet..." The Chinese place we hit on the way out of St. Marys before heading back to Florida. Mine was, "If I make it to the ferry, I will never make myself walk again." Argh...

Getting one last picture on one of my favorite places on earth before facing the cold winds on the ferry ride back to mainland Georgia.

And onto the boat....

Pebbles

I thought I would just share some pictures of Pebbles being her lovable self...
