What a great trip! Last weekend we went with some friends to Cumberland Island National Seashore in Georgia to do an overnight backpack camping trip. The weather started a little gray but cleared up nicely and made for a great weekend. The people were great, the temperature perfect, and Cumberland was as beautiful as always! We haven't gone camping with this many people in a while but everyone brought their own special feature to the group and I think we laughed straight through the weekend. Race for the Cure!

Well, we both made it across the finish line without walking or stopping! Plus, Brian was able to raise his goal amount of $500 (just over actually) so that meant a race run in pink, as you can see. He was a good sport. Between the three of us, we raised $1140. Not too shabby! Thank you so much to all of you who gave, it meant the world to me to be able to do this and do it for such a wonderful woman, Gram. Next year, we hope to add Craig and Steph and make a team out of it. It was wonderful to see so many people out for such an important cause. Thanks again everyone for all your support, both in money and encouragement! Make it your goal to be a part of next year's Race for the Cure!

NC State Homecoming!

At the beginning of October, we headed north to Raleigh, NC for the NC State Homecoming weekend. Josh's class, as well as two other classes around him, decided to have a tailgate and reconnect with old friends. The game was great with beautiful weather, great food, and lots of catching up. And hey, NC State almost won! We crashed at Justin's stylish townhouse and had a great time hanging out with him, Louisa, and Sabre (his cat). Or course, we had to make a quick trip over to Duke too, it wouldn't be very fair if we hadn't! It was a very busy weekend but we had a great time and were really sad to have to leave Raleigh after such a short time!

An afternoon on the kayak...

This past Sunday afternoon, we decided to take advantage of the less humid weather and hit the water in you very under-utilized kayak. Florida definitely has the outdoor recreation opportunities, that's for sure. As long as it isn't the middle of summer and a billion degrees plus 110% humidity! This was one of the many creeks along the coast, just two islands down from us. We couldn't have asked for better weather. Lots of nice scenery, the occasional jumping fish, and even an osprey perching on the bluff. The way back was a bit of a challenge, but all in all, a very nice afternoon. Welcome Florida fall! We have waited all summer for you!

Nicole - the Bay Area Keeper!

As if coming back with an Olympic gold isn't enough of a high for women's soccer in the US, next year will see the start of the new Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) League. Last week they allocated the gold medal players to each of the seven new teams. Bay Area (San Francisco area), Boston Breakers, Los Angeles, St. Louis, Chicago Red Stars, Washington Freedom, and Sky Blue FC (New York/New Jersey). Philadelphia and Atlanta are also slated to have teams in 2010. Nicole will be playing for the Bay Area team, which she is very happy about. Although the team doesn't have a name yet, you better believe we have already signed up for the fan club! Today they drafted some of the top international players as well. The Bay Area team picked up some great players, including some Brazilians. I hope they are nicer to their teammates than they are to their opponents on the field! Congrats Nicole, this is very exciting for you and soccer in the US. Good luck and go Bay Area!
